First Frost, Fallen Gingko Leaves

This past fall, I finally resolved this piece that I’d been kicking around for some time.

This is a digital pigment print and collage on Japanese washi paper (22” x 17”). It’s a bit difficult to see here how the piece is stitched together, so I’ve included some in-progress images.

The original photo was printed large, cut and collaged, rephotographed, printed in three segments, and collaged once more.

The photograph was taken after the first hard frost of the season, but this was now a couple of years ago. I kept coming back to it, but it never felt resolved. After many iterations and frustrating dead ends, it’s done!
