The Long View

I have some exciting news to share! I have a solo show at the Ulysses Philomathic Library (Trumansburg, NY) during the months of September and October. The show is called The Long View and is a culmination of selected landscape photographs shared over the years on this blog, dating back to 2013.

This exhibition is the first time I’m seeing many of these photos printed and displayed together. I have been taking photos of trees for many years, and the underlying themes have evolved to include resilience, displacement, and adaptation, among other things. Most of my early photos were more idea-based, so the selection for this show leans more toward recent photographs. The show deadline and a large space to fill gave me the push I needed to return to locations I had mentally noted but not yet photographed

For this exhibition, I sourced the majority of the frames from local reuse stores and painted them for uniformity. This decision began with affordability in mind and became unexpectedly rewarding as I repurposed them. When disassembled, many of the frames were time capsules with clues to their previous owners and homes, like handwritten notes and dates. In one case, it appeared that the frame had not been opened since the 70s.

A Strategic Opportunity Stipend granted by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County partially supported this project by covering the costs of replacement glass, archival mat board, and acid-free backing board.

I have 17 pieces displayed in all, hung across three sections of the library.

The artist reception will be held on September 26th from 10:30 am-1:30 pm (early on account of library hours). The show can be viewed whenever the library is open, and the hours are as follows: Mon/Thurs/Fri: 10 am-5 pm, Tues/Wed: 10 am-7 pm, Sat: 10 am-2 pm, Sun: Closed
